Development Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Full Time, Exempt

Hours: Monday – Friday with occasional nights and weekends required

Committees: Fundraising, Marketing, and ad hoc event committees

 

Position Overview

The Development Director is responsible for the implementation of a successful fundraising and marketing strategy for this dynamic and rapidly growing nonprofit and will provide strategic leadership, direction and planning for anticipated capital campaign. Executes all phases of raising gifts from high net worth individuals, foundations, and corporations; creates successful private and public events; and oversees programs to engage donors at various levels. The Development Director reports directly to the Executive Director and manages the Fund Development Committee and fund development employee/s.

 

Responsibilities

Fundraising and Development

  1. Works with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to create and implement development plan, create a budget, and achieve goals set out in the plan.
  2. Manages and facilitates the Board Fundraising Committee.
  3. Assist with the planning, organization and implementation of an approximately $6 million capital and endowment campaign.
  4. Support the Executive Director and members of the Board of Directors in their fundraising and Capital Campaign efforts.
  5. Leads and manages all fundraising activities including, but not limited to the annual fund drive, capital campaign, major gifts program, events, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
  6. Manages donor relations, communications and recognition programs.
  7. Works with Executive Director and Board of Directors to establish, implement, and maintain a planned giving program.
  8. Oversees all aspects of grant fundraising including writing grant applications and proposals, grant administration, and reporting.
  9. Manages Ambassador Program with Volunteer Chair to continually introduce JW House to new potential donors and re-introduce JW House to existing donors.
  10. Serves as liaison for Student Board and Young Professionals Advisory Committee.
  11. Leads major donor solicitation effort working with Board, and staff (as appropriate) to solicit and maintain a portfolio of major benefactors: foundations, corporations, and major individual donors.
  12. Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers to help implement development related initiatives.
  13. Oversees in-kind donation program

Marketing and Communications

  1. Oversee all external communications, including regular e-newsletters, print newsletters, collaterals, and social media.
  2. Networks and acts as one of the principal liaisons to community, business and civic leaders.
  3. Oversees JW House website, including utilizing professional volunteers and contractors for redesign and regularly updating content

 

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to represent JW House and maintain good relations with donors, grantors, staff and volunteers.
  • Highly organized project manager and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to establish relationships with foundation, corporate, and major individual donors.
  • Maintains current knowledge of fundraising trends and best practices.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication to the JW House mission.
  • Good team player able to manage a small team and establish successful relationships.
  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
  • Keeps accurate records to maintain integrity of donor database.
  • Database experience desirable and knowledge of Exceed! a plus.
  • Experience with volunteer management a plus.

 


 

 

Family Services Manager

 

Reports to: Director of Operations

Status: Full Time, Exempt

Hours: Monday – Friday with occasional nights and weekends required

Position Overview

A full-time position reporting to the Director of Operations (DO), the Family Services Manager (FSM) is primarily responsible for supporting the DO in the day-to-day operations and upkeep of the house. They will oversee guest admissions to the house, are responsible for implementing and enforcing house rules, policies, and procedures, and must be familiar with all emergency procedures and systems. The FSM oversees the daily housekeeping and maintenance and supervises the volunteers and contract staff (gardener, pest control etc.) when required. The FSM will coordinate evening food menu and volunteer groups scheduling on line. The FSM is responsible for all duties of the Director of Operations when s/he is away. Some weekend coverage.

 

Responsibilities

Admissions/Operations, in coordination with the Director of Operations and House volunteers

  1. Oversees reservations for all incoming guests, working as liaison with social workers, clergy, and others to ascertain family dynamics, special needs, and unique situations.
  2. Completes preparation of registration materials.
  3. Ensures proper recordkeeping (hard copy and electronic) on all family admissions to protect the integrity of the family services database and information system.
  4. Records all policies and procedures and maintains manual.
  5. Assists with check-in and check-out procedures, as needed.
  6. Reviews house rules and emergency procedures with each individual family and/or guest and enforces house rules as needed.
  7. Ensures continuity between weekend operations and weekday operations.
  8. Has primary responsibility for ordering, purchasing, or providing for donation and delivery of all food and supplies for the house.
  9. Ensures a safe environment for all guest and volunteers throughout the house.
  10. Helps recruits, interview and schedules house volunteers.
  11. Fields calls and e-mails regarding individual and group volunteer opportunities, provides suggestions and schedules volunteers accordingly.
  12. Maintains a current “Wish List” for donation inquiries. Communicates updates to the DO and ED as/when necessary.
  13. Attends staff meetings and trainings or workshops as required
  14. Data entry and knowledge of Exceed preferable.
  15. Other duties as assigned

Programs, Guest Relations & Hospitality

  1. Coordinates the volunteer program and fosters an environment of volunteer appreciation.
  2. Ensures open communication with referral sources, hospitals and other contacts within the community.
  3. Creates and sustains a hospitable environment for all families.
  4. Works with contract staff to ensure a safe and clean facility.
  5. Plans and purchases items for well-balanced nightly meals, when necessary.
  6. Communicates with guests to maintain continuity of services and needs.
  7. Communicates with Social Workers to ensure a continuous flow of referrals.
  8. Communicates with guests regarding financial means, renewal of stay, and other needs directly relating to their stay.
  9. Works with Social Work to schedule and provide a nurturing environment for support groups at JW House.
  10. Works with DO to ensure house stays within budget for supplies.
  11. Helps collect or solicit stories from guests for print and media materials.

 

Skills and Attributes

  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
  • Database experience desirable and knowledge of Exceed! a plus.
  • Experience with volunteer management and/or facility management a plus.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish also a plus.
