Position Description

Title: Part-Time Communications Specialist
Reports to: Development Manager
Status: Part-Time, 20-25 hrs/week, Non-Exempt
Hours: Monday – Friday with occasional weekends required

Position Overview:

As a vital contributor to our organization's impact, the part-time Communications Specialist, reporting to the Development Manager, plays a crucial role in shaping our presence in the non-profit sector. We are actively searching for an individual with a proactive mindset, specialized in crafting compelling internal and external marketing and communications materials. Our ideal candidate is not only a dynamic team player but also deeply passionate about the mission of non-profits and possesses a keen understanding of technology, particularly in the realm of social media design.

Job Description: Marketing, Communications, and Development

  1. Collaborate closely with the Development Manager to spearhead impactful external communications, covering social media, print newsletters, electronic newsletters, collateral material, and ad hoc projects.
  2. Craft compelling content, tailored to the unique needs of our non-profit organization, for both print and electronic mediums.
  3. Work in tandem with Operations staff to capture and document heartwarming family stories for integration into materials.
  4. Act as the steward of the JW House website and redesign, leveraging online giving tools and integrations to support fundraising initiatives effectively.
  5. While not a primary design role, an understanding of design tools is advantageous for updating and enhancing materials.
  6. Engage in strategic collaboration with management to shape and implement social media strategies.
  7. Generate donor reports and lists to bolster JW House initiatives and projects.

Project Management

  1. Develop and oversee event timelines, plans, and strategies in collaboration with the manager, with a focus on occasional special events.
    1. Manage on-site coordination for specific events.
    2. Oversee the creation and distribution of event materials, invitations, programs, etc., and actively promote events on social media.
    3. Capture and share event highlights through visually appealing photography on social media.
  2. Create monthly reports featuring dashboards, donor reports, campaign tracking, and annual guest statistics.
  3. Provide occasional support to Fund Development and Operations with internal projects.

Administrative Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate seamlessly with all team members, offering support and fostering a positive working environment.
  2. Participate actively in weekly staff meetings to contribute to organizational strategies.
    Attend relevant training or workshops to stay abreast of industry trends and continuously enhance skills.
  3. With guidance from the Executive Director and Development Manager, create and manage an annual marketing and event schedule.

Skills and Attributes:

  1. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills tailored for effective representation of JW House within the non-profit landscape.
  2. Proficiency in creating visually appealing marketing materials, with a strong emphasis on print and social media design.
  3. A genuine passion for the non-profit sector and a commitment to advancing our mission.
  4. Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  5. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  7. Familiarity with Meta Business Suite, other mainstream social media platforms and MailChimp.
  8. Some familiarity with chronicling events and capturing moments through photography preferred.

Salary & Benefits:

$30/HR DOE

This is a non-benefited position, except for Paid Time Off (PTO) and 401K.
